Aptly named Midway, the campground is approximately half-way between Miami and Tampa on the Tamiami Trail (combination of Tampa and Miami) or Hwy 41. The recreational area is part of Big Cypress National Preserve.
http://www.nps.gov/bicy/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htm There are 26 paved RV sites with electricity and 6 tent sites with covered concrete slabs and picnic tables. The sites wrap around a (about 3 acres) beautiful pond that you can't swim in, but looks like it will provide hours of enjoyable fishing. There are trails, airboat rides, museums, Indian villages and wildlife galore in this area. Midway campground is a perfect spot to temporarily call home while you explore. I recommend you fill up with gas before leaving Miami (heading west) or Naples (heading east).

The water is crystal clear. I forgot my fishing pole, but you better believe it will come with me next time.

Wildlife is abundant. There were no signs of threatening creatures, except the mosquitoes between dusk and dawn. There were lots of insects, birds and fish swimming around. Probably a good idea to bring insect repellent.
There is 30-50 amp electric at all 26 RV sites. You probably won't get any phone or T.V. signal.
All sites have a picnic table with a grill or fire pit.
The bathrooms have motion sensor lighting.

Sites do not have water or waste, but there is a dump and drinking water by the exit.

I will definitely return to Midway and recommend to friends. The place is relatively quite, nicely maintained and in a good location for nearby site seeing in the middle of the everglades. There is a wide range of camping options in the area from grounds like Midway with modern facilities, to back country spots that offer peace and solitude. You need to make sure you are gassed up and have provisions because there are no stations or convenient stores within 25 miles or so. If you do need gas or food, head west for the closest stores.
